Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

1. STC (Small-scale Technology Certificates)

  • Federal government incentive under the Renewable Energy Target (RET).

  • Not means tested

  • Provides an upfront discount on solar system installation (currently around $260 per KW installed, so more solar installed leads to bigger rebate)

  • Available for systems under 100kW, with the number of STCs decreasing yearly until 2030.

2. BSTC (Battery Storage Technology Certificates)

  • New battery rebate as of 07/2025

  • Similar to STCs but applies to home battery storage systems.

  • Rebate applies to storage capacity installed, (currently around $345 per KWh)

  • Provides a financial incentive for installing eligible batteries

3. Solar Victoria Rebate (Solar Homes Program)

  • State government rebate offering up to $1,400 off a solar PV system.

  • Available to homeowners (including landlords) with a combined household income under $210,000.

  • Must use an approved retailer and meet eligibility criteria (e.g., property value under $3 million).

4. Solar Victoria Interest-Free Loan

  • Interest-free loan of up to $1,400 to help cover the cost of solar.

  • Can be combined with the Solar Vic rebate, reducing the upfront cost significantly.

  • Same eligibility criteria as the rebate (income, property value, etc.).

Summary:

  • STC: Federal discount on solar panels.

  • BSTC: Federal discount on batteries

  • Solar Vic Rebate: State rebate ($1,400 off).

  • Solar Vic Loan: Interest-free loan (up to $1,400).

Many households combine STCs + Solar Vic Rebate + Loan for maximum savings.

Backup power means your battery can supply electricity during a blackout, keeping essential appliances running. Not all battery systems have backup functionality - some are designed only to save on bills without providing blackout protection. If backup is important to you, we can recommend a battery with this feature and ensure it’s properly set up for your needs.

We can back up your whole home, one essential piece of equipment, or anything in between.
